From the Super 8mm films of Joseph Seidl, C. Vision Productions proudly presents “A 1960’s Train Travelogue”, a moving portrait of vintage and exotic railroading in the 1960’s throughout several parts of the US and Canada.
Joe embarked on several rail safaris with his Argus Super 8mm camera that includes the C&NW and Milwaukee Road in his hometown of Menominee, Michigan. Other roads Joe covered near his hometown were the Soo Line and the Green Bay & Western in northeastern and central Wisconsin. During his jaunts to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula he captured the Lake Superior & Ishpeming Alco’s on the Marquette Iron Range.
Joe frequented the Canadian railroads as well documenting the Canadian Pacific along the northern Lake Superior shore and the Canadian National and Ontario Northland railroads. Included are shots of the “Canadian” in its maroon and gray scheme, the “Super Continental” on the CN, along with the Turbo train. You will even see the “Northland” and the “Polar Bear Express” on the Ontario Northland.
Entering the Navy in 1968 he shot the CB&Q trackside while stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Center. While stationed elsewhere in the country he was able to capture a former Santa Fe PA-4u, now painted in the blue and gray scheme of the Delaware & Hudson pulling the “Laurentian” through Whitehall, New York and Seaboard Coastline E6’s, E7’s, and E8’s pulling the “Gulf Coast Special” through Charleston, South Carolina. Other interesting roads that are featured are of the Penn Central GG-1’s in Maryland, the Great Northern in Superior, Wisconsin and CB&Q 2-8-0 steam locomotive #4960 pulling the Ringling Brothers Circus train between Lodi and Helensville, Wisconsin.
And we don’t stop there. We go back to the late 1950’s thru 1966 to see some Milwaukee Road and Soo Line action in eastern Wisconsin from the camera of Lynn Longley.

The Illinois Central Railroad, which is also referred to as the Main Line of Mid-America, ran in the central United States from Chicago to New Orleans along with many other branch lines.

The Illinois Central became a part of the Canadian National Railway in 1998. A time when many class one’s were finding merging partners.

In this production Marshall Beecher along with William Beecher Junior, Mike Savona and Chris Laskowski, capture the IC’s black beauties hauling freight along the IC system and beyond.

Marshall captures the Illinois Central before and after the CN merger in the mid to late 1990’s on its main line from Chicago to Humboldt, Illinois.

William, Mike and Chris join Marshall following the Illinois Central in several other areas. Included is a portion of IC’s Iowa Division from Galena, Illinois to Raymond, Iowa. We were fortunate to view this line operating as a through route before the Chicago to Huron trains, along with their southbound counterparts, were diverted in late 2008. Next, the Jackson Sub in Minnesota provides us with ethanol and local freight trains as they traverse the rich farmland of Southern Minnesota. We end with a journey across the Mason City Sub from Sheldon to Mason City, Iowa. This line provided us with many timeless scenes of long, heavy grain locals pounding along the 90-pound jointed rail at 25 miles-per-hour through the serene Northern Iowa countryside before the line was restricted to 10 miles-per-hour by the Canadian Pacific. Many beautiful evening and night scenes were captured for your enjoyment on a line rarely documented by photographers. If you are a fan of the Soo Line, you'll love this video! Since the Canadian Pacific Railway took over the Soo Line in the early 1990's, it has become a rare sight to see Soo Line locomotives leading trains, especially on original Soo Line tracks. Most Soo locomotives were being sold or repainted, while others were reassigned to service in Canada. C. Vision Productions has captured the images of these red and white locomotives in, "A Tribute to the Soo Line." Our crew traveled the original Soo Line on the Paynesville Subdivision from Glenwood to Minneapolis, Minnesota to capture the Soo locomotives leading trains. We also followed the Soo on the old Milwaukee Road main line following the Mississippi River from St. Paul to River Junction.

Five main locomotive types from the Soo Line are featured in this program. Venerable SD 40 dash 2's, GP 38 dash 2's and GP 40's can be seen pulling freight through the rolling prairies of Minnesota, along with the larger SD 60's and SD 60M's. Since that time, the railroad has transformed itself from fledgling regional carrier to a successful arm of a major class one railroad. In this production, you will experience the Wisconsin Central Ltd. through the eyes of Beecher brothers Marshall and William Junior, a showcase on the operation of this classy regional carrier 18 years in the making! The show will highlight railroading from the field and in the cab so viewers can see what made this operation so successful and so compelling. Witness movement of trains within the Chicago Terminal, from operations on home rails to destinations on several foreign line carriers. Take a last look inside a Chicago-Area Manned interlocking tower prior to its closure and see plenty of maroon and gold hauling tonnage in and around the windy city. In Volume 2, we will cover operations on WC's mainline from Slinger, Wisconsin north to the Fox Valley cities of Neenah and Oshkosh. Before closing, we will also take a look at a few of their operations around the Stevens Point area and will view some moves in the northern Wisconsin town of Ladysmith. In this production, viewers can look forward to more fast-paced sequences of WC trains in a variety of paint schemes, from ex-ATSF and ex-BN SD45's to the emergence of maroon and gold painted SD45's, WC-painted cowl units and run-through power from CN's haulage rights trains. C. Vision's cameras take you on a journey across the former Milwaukee Road mainline from St. Paul, Minnesota to Summit, SD. The line's current operators, Canadian Pacific, Minnesota Commercial, Twin Cities & Western, and BNSF keep this line active and interesting, and we will see all of them in operation. We take a look back to TC&W's operations in the early to mid-1990's, as well as current operations. A cab ride from Hopkins to St. Paul Yard aboard TC&W's short-lived SD20's, through the Depression Corridor and over Short Line Bridge, is something you won't want to miss! Along with the SD20's, we capture TC&W's classic fleet of GP10's in operation before they were replaced by Caterpillar GP20C's in 1997. From 2007-2009, we return to the TC&W to document new unit train operations, along with a renaissance of older EMD power on TC&W turn jobs. RRV&W GP10's, leased CP GP9's, TC&W's GP39-2's, and the occasional CAT are all seen hauling freight across Minnesota. Coal trains for Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative in Ruebel began operating with BNSF run-through power during the production period. SOO Line SD60's were the primary power for ethanol trains on the TC&W at the time of production, and you'll see several of these trains.
Not to be outdone, BNSF puts on a spectacular show with a variety of motive power that will not be seen again! SD40-2's were the most common power on through freights. Several BNSF first-generation diesels are seen in action, as well as BNSF's only operating SDP40. We're sure you'll enjoy seeing this line operating as the Milwaukee Road intended, as BNSF freights kept the jointed rail polished on their journeys to and from the Pacific Northwest and Montana. Experience history with the “Big Boy”! For the first time since 1961, Union Pacific’s Big Boy, number 4014 ran under its own power becoming the largest operational steam locomotive in the world in 2019. Big Boy has been on display in Pomona, California since 1961, but after an extensive rebuild years in the making, the Big Boy took off from Cheyenne, Wyoming in May 2019, to Utah to take part in the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Golden Spike.

As part of this historic event, Union Pacific took the Big Boy on a tour in July and August of 2019 in what was called “The Great Race Across the Midwest.” C. Vision Productions covers a part of this tour from Mason City, Iowa, up to the Twin Cities and Twin Ports in Minnesota, then through Wisconsin, down to Chicago and across Illinois into Iowa. 16 videographers were on hand to document this giant locomotive from both the ground and the air!

The Marshall Subdivision

If you crave variety, this tape has it! The Marshall Subdivision of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe runs from Willmar, Minnesota, to Sioux City, Iowa. This line runs through the rich farmlands of the upper Midwest. There is plenty of variety on this line. Many unit grain trains are common, along with coal trains, taconite trains, general freights and locals. 20 different locomotive models pull 60 trains throughout the video, along with an "in cab" view of the Garretson branch line from Sioux Falls to Garretson, South Dakota. Eight different road names appear, either heading a train or helping within the locomotive consist, along with many leased units as well.

C. Vision Productions continues its look at Minnesota's main lines and visits the BNSF's Wayzata Sub. Often referred to as The Willmar Line, the Wayzata Sub covers 90 miles of territory from Minneapolis to Willmar.

This ex-Great Northern route runs through many different types of landscapes. From major metropolitan areas of the Twin Cities, to the rolling prairies and farm lands in central Minnesota, journey along as our cameras catch the action of freight, coal and grain trains. You'll even see spectacular motive power from other railroads including CSX, Kansas City Southern and Chicago and North Western just to name a few. Several BNSF models also take charge of trains. BNSF’s Staples Sub is a part of the ex-Northern Pacific Transcontinental main line that stretches from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest ports of Portland, Seattle and Tacoma. The Staples Sub itself runs from Dilworth to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following the route of US Highway 10, the staples sub is divided into two dispatching territories with the west end running from Dilworth to Staples. In this presentation, we cover the 128-mile east end from Staples to University Junction in Minneapolis.

Travel along the beautiful countryside of Minnesota where the Staples Sub encounters rolling prairies, unique city’s and classic small towns. This line is a part of BNSF's northern Transcontinental main from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest. C. In our continuing series, BNSF, Along the Route of the Santa Fe, videographer Kenn Oberneder and Marshall Beecher take us on a journey across Illinois capturing intense train action on BNSF’s Chillicothe Subdivision. This sub runs from the Windy City through the rich farmlands and rolling hills of northern Illinois to the western terminal of Fort Madison, Iowa on the Mississippi River.

We set up our camera in several locations to document the last of the Santa Fe style cantilever signals that were found in several towns along the line before they were replaced with new LED signals.

During the remarkable 147-year history of the Chicago and North Western Railroad Company from 1848 to 1995, the railroad fielded a variety of main line and branch line service throughout the Midwest and High Plains region, not to mention several locomotive types to move those trains. A secondary C&NW main line from Chicago ran northwest through Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota to Pierre, Dakota Territory in 1880. This route was finally completed across South Dakota to Rapid City in 1907. In the late 1970s, many American Locomotive Company units were based at Huron, South Dakota, due to their lightweight and pulling capacity. This specific suitability to the area's light rail and slow speeds established the Pierre to Winona route as the ALCO line. In this video, photographer Fred Crissey follows the ALCO Line between Winona, Minnesota and Pierre, South Dakota, from 1977 to 1981. Also included are the Plainview, Minnesota and Aberdeen to Huron, South Dakota branch lines. In 2001, LTV Mining's plant site and dock shut down operations in the arrowhead of Minnesota.

In the summer of 2008, Cliffs Erie revived the line for one last time. They brought back the famous set of F-9 locomotives to move taconite fines from the former LTV dock at Taconite Harbor to the Hoyt Lakes mine site for transloading onto trains for the Severstal Steel plant in Baltimore, Maryland. Only a handful of these trains were operated and C. Vision was granted special access to ride in the cab between Taconite Harbor and Tunnel Siding! Not only will you get a chance to view the scenic beauty of northern Minnesota from these 1956 built locomotives, but we also captured several trackside views from Taconite Harbor to Hoyt Lakes, including shots of the very last train that ran on October 28, 2008.

The sound of this A-B-B-B-A set of F-9's grinding up the grade out of the Lake Superior dock will amaze any rail enthusiast! You even get to view the train going through the long tunnel from the cab!

In Volume 2 of our coverage of the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern, we cover the railroad's mainline from Waseca, Minnesota to Pierre, South Dakota. With coverage before and after the CP takeover, a great variety of motive power is seen in operation, including the arrival of SOO and CP SD60's on DM&E lines. This show chronicles EMD's finest, as they power across the railroad with heavy trains of grain, ethanol, and bentonite. Burlington Northern Santa Fe's transcontinental main line runs from Chicago to the ports in the Pacific Northwest. C. Vision Productions captures the images of BNSF trains traversing a section of the Trans-Con over the east end of the Staples Subdivision from Staples to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

This main line is full of train variety. Intermodal and stack trains dominate, but manifest, coal and grain also polish the iron of this main line. C. Vision spent many months following these trains, in all four seasons.

Several locomotives in the Heritage paint scheme head up trains, along with predecessors, Santa Fe and Burlington Northern. B.N.'s "Pulling for Freedom" SD-60M is also spotted just before it was repainted!

Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Hinckley Subdivision carries a variety of railroad traffic from the Twin Ports of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Hinckley Sub is an important route for commodities moving to and from the shipping ports on Lake Superior.

This line will excite you as it shows trains from owner BNSF, along with Canadian Pacific and Union Pacific. Canadian National trains traversed this route under a haulage agreement with BNSF before the end of 1998. C. Vision cameras capture many CN trains on the Hinckley Sub before they shifted to the Wisconsin Central. You will also see Milwaukee Road steam locomotive, number 261, as it pulls a BNSF Employee Special train!

C. Vision Productions returns to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Hinckley Subdivision! We last visited this line in 1998. Several things have changed since our last video and in late 2005, we decided to revisit this fascinating line in all four seasons!

Beginning at Coon Creek Junction in Coon Rapids, Minnesota we tour the line northward to Superior, Wisconsin. You will see coal trains now operating in distributive power mode. Additional BNSF taconite trains pound the rails along with many general freights, grain and potash trains. More Heritage paint schemes appear, including BNSF's newest scheme introduced in 2005! Motive power varies from the traditional SD40-2's and Dash9-44's to the new ES-44AC and DC locomotives. What hasn't changed is the variety of traffic from trackage rights trains from the Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific. The scenery on the northern part of the line is still as stunning as before, including the high trestle over the Kettle River near Sandstone, the Net River at Holyoke and the Black River and Nemadji River Bridges south of Superior.

Canadian National trains ceased operations on the Hinckley Sub in August of 1998. However, CN locomotives started making an appearance again in late 2005 as they pooled interchange operations with the Union Pacific. A few fallen flag locomotives are still seen including Soo Line, Burlington Northern, Santa Fe and Southern Pacific!

We captured many of these aging units that were leading trains in the years 2012 to 2017. Several trains are captured throughout the Midwest on both home rails and across the BNSF and Canadian Pacific systems mostly due to the increased crude oil traffic in North Dakota. In the 1980’s, the Midwest’s rail scene was one of many colors and varieties. Not only were there several class one railroads, but regionals and short lines flourished as well. Videographer Bob Rivard spent days documenting four different regionals from the early 1980’s to the early 1990’s. This historic footage captures several sights and sounds you are sure to enjoy!
Starting on the Chicago Central and Pacific’s Iowa Division, you will love the sound of big sets of first generation EMD GP locomotives through the rolling landscape of western Illinois and eastern Iowa. Many trains are led with engines still wearing the original ICG paint scheme, along with CC&P red and some ex Milwaukee Road units.
Then we head to central Iowa where Bob catches a Cedar Rapids and Iowa City train led with its attractive yellow and gray GP9’s.
Before all the blue and gold SD40-2’s, the Dakota Minnesota and Eastern rostered ex Chicago & North Western SD9’s and Milwaukee Road SD10’s. We see several DM&E trains on the east end near Waseca and Owatonna, Minnesota.

In this volume, we feature the Progressive Rail. This fascinating short line operates 5 different rail lines in east central Minnesota. We capture all 5 lines with run-bys and switching at many industries.

The Northfield to Lakeville line is an ex-Minneapolis, Northfield and Southern Route. Progressive Rail purchased this line from the Canadian Pacific in 2004 and operates a daily train each way using an ex-MN&S SD-39 in an inspired MN&S paint scheme.

The Progressive Rail also uses an ex-MN&S SW-1500, along with other SW-1500s in the MN&S scheme on their other routes. The Highline is another ex-MN&S line that runs through the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington. The Eagandale line is an ex-Milwaukee Road route that runs from Rosemount to industries in Eagan. You will also see two routes that originate in Northfield including the ex-Chicago Great Western line to Randolph and an in-cab experience on the trackage rights train to Faribault.

Progressive Rail also operates a warehouse facility in the Airlake Industrial Park in Lakeville. We see operations around the warehouse facility as the PGR serves several customers in the Industrial Park complex.

In this volume, we feature the St. Croix Valley and the Minnesota Northern.

The St. Croix Valley Railroad runs on a portion of the ex-Northern Pacific Skally line that once ran from the Twin Cities to Duluth and Superior. We follow this railroad as it heads from its headquarters in Rush City to North Branch to retrieve loaded fertilizer cars. Then the train heads north to Hinckley to interchange its freight with the BNSF. You will then be amazed as we view the St. Croix Valley's green GP-9 pulling a private passenger car from Pine City to Rush City.

Then we head to the far northwestern part of the state and follow the Minnesota Northern. From Erskin, we ride along in the Minnesota Northern's caboose over the Canadian Pacific's tracks to Thief River Falls. After passing the historic Thief River Falls Depot, we follow the train and its GP-9 and GP-7 locomotives as they traverse the old Burlington Northern line to Warroad.

Volume 3 of Minnesota's Railroads takes you to the central part of the Land of 10,000 Lakes. First, C. Vision cameras follow the Ruebel Turn on the Twin Cities & Western's ex Milwaukee Road main line from Glencoe to Renville. On this line we follow two trains. One led with TC&W's GP-30 Cat #4300 and the other with a visiting Red River Valley & Western GP-15 Cat. This line runs through the heart of Minnesota's Corn Belt. Many small towns with classic grain elevators keep the Twin Cities & Western busy with grain movement along with a sugar beet factory in Renville. We also get a glimpse of operations between Minneapolis and Glencoe including a slug CF-7 leading a transfer.

The sister company of the TC&W is the Minnesota Prairie Line. This railroad runs on ex Minneapolis & St. Louis track from its connection with the TC&W at Cologne to Wood River. We follow the entire route as two GP-10's and another visiting Red River Valley & Western GP-20 Cat haul freight over the system. Along with the TC&W line, the Minnesota Prairie Line tracks run through many small towns and pass two restored M&St.L depots. You will love the sound of those GP-10's as they growl while climbing out of the Minnesota River valley at Morton!

Volume 4 of Minnesota's Railroads visits two unique short lines. In the southwest corner of the state, the Minnesota Southern operates over former Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha rails. Based in Luverne, this railroads hauls mostly ethanol and liquid feed from locations in Luverne, to interchanges with the BNSF at Manley on the west end and with the Union Pacific in Worthington on the east end. A sharp looking GP-10, lettered for the short lines predecessor Nobles Rock Railroad, puts on a great show as it hauls several tank cars across the system. We follow operations on the Minnesota Southern as it makes runs from Luverne to Manley and to Worthington. Rolling hills, farmlands and electric generating windmills create marvelous Midwest backdrops for the Minnesota Southern.

Then we head to the west central part of the land of 10,000 lakes and document the operations of Rail America's Otter Tail Valley Railroad. Traveling over ex-Great Northern Rails, the OTVR runs from its home base of Fergus Falls to Moorhead, where they interchange with the BNSF in the adjacent town of Dilworth. This railroad uses first generation high hood four axle locomotives on rails that are good for 40 miles per hour! You will love the sound of these classy old "geeps" as they work hard hauling and switching main line freight! Plenty of BNSF action is also captured while the train is making its interchange at Dilworth.

Minnesota's Railroads, Volume 5 continues C. Vision's tour of railroads operating in the Land of 10,000 Lakes! In this production, we visit 3 unique railroads. First is the newly formed Northern Lines Railway. This railroad operates over ex-BNSF rails in the St. Cloud area. An awesome site is the East Job that uses a Northern Lines painted caboose and crosses the Mississippi River Bridge near downtown. We also follow their ex-Belt Railway of Chicago GP-10's on the West Job to St. Joseph and a run on the Cold Spring Spur.

Another fabulous shortline is the Cloquet Terminal in Cloquet. Formerly known as the Duluth and Northeastern, this shortline uses aging SW-1 locomotives and an SW-1000 as they tend to freight car movement for the Sappi Paper Mill, Specialty Minerals and USG's ceiling tile plant. They also interchange traffic with the BNSF.

Then we show you a special treat compliments of the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. The LSRM operates the Northshore Scenic Railroad from Duluth to Two Harbors. In this segment, we document a special train that was put together for an annual "Railfan Weekend" excursion. The train includes restored Great Northern NW-5 number 192 and a restored GN wood caboose! You will also see LSRM's Duluth Missabe & Iron Range SD-18 and Soo Line GP-30 in action!

Minnesota's Railroads, Volume 6 continues C. Vision's tour of railroads operating in the Land of 10,000 Lakes! In this production, we visit the Minnesota Commercial Railway. This short line carrier operates in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Operating over 150 route miles, the Minnesota Commercial is the oldest and most connected new short line carrier in Minnesota.

The Commercial operates several jobs serving industries on lines once operated by the Minnesota Transfer Railway Company, along with operating on tracks leased by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Canadian Pacific and Union Pacific. The Commercial also interchanges with all of the railroads in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region. In this video, we follow 6 of the major jobs the Commercial operates, along with capturing some transfers.

This railroad is truly unique as it operates with second generation Dash 7 General Electric locomotives including B-23 dash 7's and a B-36 dash 7. If you are an Alco fan, this railroad has a treat for you! You will see one of the last two RS-27's in existence operating the Hennepin Job as well as a C424 teamed up with a slug working the yard.

In Volume 1 of our coverage of the Montana Rail Link, we follow the railroad's mainline from Jones Junction, near Huntley, Montana, to Helena, over the MRL's 1st and 2nd Subdivisions. In addition to the mainline, the 5th, 6th, and 13th Subdivisions are also covered. On the mainline, trains are seen following the course of the beautiful Yellowstone River east of Livingston, climbing the steep grades of Bozeman Pass and Winston Hill, and traversing the tight curvature along the Missouri River. The 5th Subdivision was once part of Northern Pacific's Homestake Pass route, and we follow it along its entire length from Logan to Spire Rock. Along the way, the tracks pass through Jefferson Canyon, arguably one of the most scenic stretches of territory on the entire railroad. MRL's remaining branch lines are true survivors, with the 6th and 13th Subdivisions being no exception. On these lines, you'll enjoy seeing a truly different side of the railroad's operation.

MRL's SD-45 fleet returned to mainline service in 2014, and C. Vision was there to capture these impressive machines as they earned their keep on lease to BNSF. MRL's mix of old and new EMD locomotives put on an impressive show, and you'll enjoy seeing these well-maintained units operating in all types of service.

In Volume 2 of our coverage of the Montana Rail Link, we follow the railroad's mainline from Helena, Montana to Sandpoint, Idaho, over the MRL's 3rd and 4th Subdivisions. In addition to the mainline, the 9th and 10th Subdivisions are also covered. On the 3rd Sub, trains are seen as they negotiate the steep grades and tight curves of Mullan Pass. This is true mountain railroading, and MRL puts on an impressive show. We visit Missoula, and then take a quick tour of the 9th Subdivision, also known as the Darby or Bitterroot Branch. From DeSmet, we follow the 10th Subdivision to Paradise. The 10th Sub is home to Evaro Hill, and features some incredible scenery along the Flathead River. Next, we head back to DeSmet to cover the 4th Subdivision to Sandpoint, Idaho. Following the course of the Clark Fork River in western Montana, the 4th Sub is nothing short of spectacular. Near the far west end of the MRL, trains are seen as they travel along the pristine waters of Lake Pend Oreille, one of the most beautiful lakes Idaho has to offer.

Along with MRL's LM and ML trains, we also cover the railroad's west end local operations. The Darby, Paradise, and Gas Locals are all seen as they go about their assigned chores. MRL's fleet of blue EMDs has never looked better, and you'll enjoy seeing these units operating through some of the most scenic landscapes in the region. BNSF powered trains are also viewed, as they travel across the MRL system.

Moorhead Junction in Moorhead, Minnesota, is just across the border from Fargo, North Dakota. The Junction is where the Great Northern and Northern Pacific once crossed each other. Today, BNSF trains travel on both main lines making this a busy hot spot in the Fargo/Moorhead area.

Moorhead Junction consists of the BNSF's KO subdivision that runs from East Dilworth, Minnesota to Minot, North Dakota. This is the ex-Northern Pacific Main line and is a part of BNSF's northern transcontinental main line from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest. The large yard facilities in Dilworth lie just east of the junction. The KO sub also connects with the Jamestown Sub west of Fargo. Those tracks host mostly Powder River Coal trains.
The north south line is an ex-Great Northern route that splits into two subdivisions at Moorhead Junction. To the south is the Moorhead Sub that runs along the Red River Valley to Breckenridge, Minnesota. Also on the south end is OTV junction, which is another ex-GN line that is operated by short line Otter Tail Valley, from Moorhead to Fergus Falls, Minnesota. From the north is the Prosper Sub. This subdivision connects to the Hillsboro, Hunter, Clifford and Warwick Subdivisions before connecting back onto the KO Sub in Nolan, North Dakota.
Lots of train action was captured in the summer of 2010. A wide variety of trains from hot intermodals to coal, grain and locals make Moorhead Junction one of the best hot spots in the Midwest!

Newport is one of many railroading hot spots in the Twin Cities area and C. Vision takes you here for an extensive look at the operations through this suburban city. Located just southeast of St. Paul, Newport is the point where the ex-CB&Q and Milwaukee Road main lines come together, along with the old Rock Island Route. Today, trains from the BNSF and Canadian Pacific operate these tracks. Add in trackage rights trains from the Iowa Chicago & Eastern and the passage of Amtrak's Empire Builder, and you can see why many railfans flock to this location.

The old Milwaukee Road Dispatchers Tower still stands next to the tracks. From its new location next to Newport City Hall, a retired Milwaukee Road dispatcher gives us a tour and shares memories of his time working in the building. View trains from the tower, along with several awesome locations along the main line in Newport.

Along with the BNSF, CP, IC& E and Amtrak, foreign power such as Norfolk Southern, Canadian National and the Indiana Railroad make appearances. Plus, plenty of Soo Line and Santa Fe locomotives lead several trains.

Join C. Vision Productions as we take a tour of Norfolk Southern’s Lafayette District. Running on ex-Wabash rails, the Lafayette District runs from Decatur, Illinois to West Peru, Indiana. This line is a main artery for automobile and auto parts traffic traveling between Detroit, Michigan and Kansas City, Missouri.
Along with the autos, many other types of freight can be seen along this line including grain and coal.
Norfolk Southern has a wide variety of locomotive models and this program showcases many of them. Included are rebuilt SD60E’s, Caterpillar powered PR43C’s, C40-9’s, GEVO’s, SD-70ACe’s, Ex-Conrail C40-8W’s and SD60I’s with some still in Conrail Blue! Plus, special appearances of their New York Central and Lehigh Valley Heritage units. That’s not all! Nickel Plate Steam Locomotive number 765 is also captured on a special!
Lots of great small town settings, grain elevators and old style search light signals can be seen providing great video backdrops. Since its inception, the RCP&E has made many positive changes in the operation and working environment, and has begun investing heavily in its equipment and physical plant. Mountains and narrow gauge railroads are two things that worked well together years ago. One of the more notable of those narrow gauge railroads belonged to the Rio Grande. In this video, C. Vision presents the Rio Grande Narrow Gauge in the 1950’s from the films of George Niles.
On his journeys to Colorado, George captured a variety of standard gauge action, including the Santa Fe, Colorado & Southern and standard gauge Rio Grande scenes.
In Durango, our narrow gauge journey begins. Here we see the spectacular trains and scenery of the line from Durango to Silverton from both trackside and on board.
Next, we view a pair of "Cumbres Turns" with K-36 #483 and K-37 #490 in charge. These trains ran to and from Chama, New Mexico and Cumbres, Colorado.
Then it’s off to Salida, Colorado for our last segment. This is where we begin to see some great scenes of the Monarch Turn from Salida to the CF&I Limestone Quarry. Locations on this line include Maysville and the Garfield Switch Back.
This video includes a big portion of the Rio Grande narrow gauge fleet. 2-8-2’s in the K-27, K-28, K-36 and K-37 class are shown along with US Army diesel 4700N, that was tested by the Rio Grand in 1954.

C. Vision Productions takes you back to the 1960's to view original operations on the Rock Island Mid-continent Route. Captured from the film camera of Louis Schaefer, you will see The Rock operating between St. Paul, Minnesota and Mason City, Iowa along with a few other Iowa locations.

Passenger trains are seen led with E-3's and E-8's. Joint power from CB&Q is also captured on the Zephyr Rocket. Freight trains are led with a variety of Rock Island power including F-7's, Alco FA1's, GP-7's and GE U-Boats. Paint schemes include Maroon's, Red's and the Light Blue's.

Volume 4 includes all new footage of Union Pacific 40’s in both transfer and main line service. We even catch one of Canadian Pacific’s rebuilt 40’s along with a couple trains led with CSX and NS SD40-2’s. Canadian National gave us some great opportunities in this time period with both their SD40-2 and SD40-2W’s. The star of the show is BNSF, as they continued to run nine of their 40’s on the main lines in Minnesota. On several occasions, BNSF added a cabless GP38-2B in between a pair of 40’s for a rare A-B-A consist! On a couple other occasions, BNSF pulled a train with 4 SD40-2’s!

C. Vision Productions presents the Southern Pacific Steam in the 1950’s in the San Joaquin Valley of California from the films of Doctor Wayland Paul Matt. Doctor Matt was a railroad doctor for both the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific in Bakersfield California during the 1950’s and 60’s. This gave him the opportunity to photograph many steam locomotives in the west.

This spectacular footage includes many of S.P.’s steamers including Cab Forwards, GS-4’s, Baldwin F-4’s, F-5’s, C-9’s, SP built 'Mountain' MT-4’s, Baldwin narrow gauge 4-6-0 number 18 and much more!

You will see these great steam locomotives in charge of both passenger and freight trains in the San Joaquin Valley of California with many shots pacing trains on Highway 99 near Bakersfield. We also visit Tehachapi Loop and great action from the yard in Bakersfield. Also included is the narrow gauge line in the Owens Valley with ex-Nevada California Oregon Baldwin number 18! We even see workers transferring ties from a standard gauge car to a narrow gauge car in Owenyo.

Shoreham Hill After the Milwaukee Road Merger

Following the Soo/Milwaukee Road merger, the Soo’s Twin Cities to Chicago Main was downgraded to a secondary route. The Soo’s double track main line through Northeast Minneapolis had been dormant for most of the winter of 1985. On January 11, 1986, the Soo ran a Roseport bound potash extra via Shoreham Hill. Once again, the sounds of classic EMD power would fill the neighborhoods of Northeast Minneapolis! Videographer Bob Rivard covers this classic action from the years 1986 and 1987.

SD-40’s, GP-30’s, high hood GP-7 & 9’s, SW-1200’s and Soo Line cabooses in classic Soo Line Red and White colors are abound in this show along with many other locomotive models. Mix in post merger power of Milwaukee Road units and cabooses, and you get a colorful array of locomotives in this program. You will be amazed watching and hearing most of these trains being pushed with helpers ranging from GP-9’s to MP-15’s! Other roads appear including the Chicago and North Western and Burlington Northern.

The Milwaukee Road, which ran from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest, operated as an electrified line in Montana up until June of 1974. Photographer Ted Pope captured the last 4 days of the electric operations before the line switched to full diesel operations. The territory you will see in this video runs between Deer Lodge and Harlowton, Montana. Fred also followed the Milwaukee Road from Kansas City, Missouri to Ottumwa, Iowa just after the Soo Line purchased the Milwaukee in 1986. The Soo Line Railroad was a classic Midwest class one that operated from Portal, North Dakota to Sault Saint Marie, Michigan, along with many branch lines throughout its system. This railroad sported many different types of locomotives with several different lettering schemes. Photographer Fred Crissey spent time documenting movements on the Soo Line in the late 1970's. The segments Fred captured include the Minneapolis, Minnesota to Owen, Wisconsin line, continuing eastward to Byron Hill. Portions of the original Soo main line from Minneapolis east to Prentice, Wisconsin including the line from Dresser to Superior are featured. We also get a chance to view operations between Medford and Prentice, Wisconsin. Fred also travels to central Minnesota to follow the Paynesville Sub that runs from Minneapolis to Glenwood. Our show concludes with scenes of two GP-9's on a train through Fullerton, North Dakota.

This volume takes you to five different areas in the Midwest showcasing nine different railroads. Starting in the eastern metro of Chicago, we visit Whiting and East Chicago, Indiana to see NS action on the Chicago Line. These cities also play host to the CSX, CN and mill switching at the Arcelor Mittal Steel Mill. Then we move Calumet Interlocking before being treated to a couple of Indiana Harbor Belt SW-1500’s simultaneously switching Gibson Yard. CSX, NS and Chicago, Ft. Wayne and Eastern top off our visit in Dolton, Illinois.

Moving to Nebraska, we catch a BNSF meet between two trains led with brand new KSC and BNSF power in Winnebago before heading to Golden Spike Tower in North Platte. Here we get a birds eye view of Union Pacific trains working at Bailey Yard. While in the North Platte area, we pay a visit to Buttermilk Curve in Brady.
In our final segment, we travel a little outside the Midwest area to see Union Pacific Trains battle the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and encounter Moffat Tunnel. Big, heavy trains and splendid mountain scenery make for a great way to end this video.

In this installment, we will view trains operating through four states. First, we travel to Kansas to view operations on the Kyle Railroad. We were on the hunt for the road's former Southern Pacific SD45T-2s, and were rewarded on several occasions. The deep bass and growl of these units is something to behold! Next, we drop down to BNSF's La Junta Sub in western Kansas and eastern Colorado to see a few trains bouncing across the plains over the route's increasingly rough jointed rail. We then travel to the Iron Range of northeastern Minnesota to view DM&IR, CN, Cliffs Erie's former LTV operation, and BNSF trains during several beautiful fall days during the years of 2004 and 2010. We then head south to BNSF's Staples Subdivision to view some select trains with classic motive power. A freshly rebuilt SD45-2 and a GP50 make separate appearances leading trains in this segment. Next, we head for North Dakota to view action on the former GN secondary route between Fargo and Minot via Grand Forks across the Hillsboro and Devils Lake Subdivisions. Older EMD power, former GN signals, code line, and some high-speed jointed rail, make for some exciting scenes. Before heading to Minnesota, we briefly cover the Jamestown Sub in eastern North Dakota, viewing a few more trains with interesting EMD power. Next, we take a sampling of trains on the Morris, Marshall, and Wayzata Subdivisions to round out the show. Several scenes of former Oakway SD60s in their final months of service on BNSF are also included. University Junction in Minneapolis, Minnesota is one of many hot spots in the Twin Cities area. University is located in north Minneapolis just south of BNSF's Northtown and 35th Avenue Yard and adjacent to Canadian Pacific's Shoreham Intermodal facility. The Great Northern and Northern Pacific once owned these tracks. Canadian Pacific's Shoreham intermodal facility and trackage westward from University are original Soo Line territory. Along with a variety of BNSF and CP trains, many transfer moves from the Union Pacific and Canadian National come through University daily. Many multiple train movements are common here. In this volume, we capture action at University in the winter months of January to March of 2009.

University Junction in Minneapolis, Minnesota is one of many hot spots in the Twin Cities area. University is located in North Minneapolis just south of BNSF's Northtown and 35th Avenue Yard, and adjacent to Canadian Pacific's Shoreham Intermodal facility.

C. Vision Productions takes you back in time to view ore hauling railroads from Minnesota and Michigan in the late 1950's to the mid 1980's from the films of Robert C. Anderson.
Bob's camera captures the last days of the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range's steam operations in 1959. Missabe's massive 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone's are seen hauling long ore trains across the iron range along with Missabe's 500 series 2-10-2 locomotives in yard service. We are even treated to a cab ride in Yellowstone number 225!

Then Bob treats us to the DM&IR's diesel operations from 1972 to 1986. SD-9's and SD-18's were common along with Alco C-630's and newly acquired SD-38 dash 2's. Some non-ore action is seen around the Duluth area including the Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific and Chicago & North Western. Highlights of other ore haulers are seen including Reserve Mining and U. S. Steel.

Then it is off to the upper peninsula of Michigan where we find the Milwaukee Road hauling all rail taconite trains in the Iron Mountain region. The Lake Superior and Ishpeming is also featured with recently acquired Baltimore and Ohio Alco RSD-12's.
Finally, Bob's camera captures the last days of the Chicago and North Western's FM locomotives in Ore service. Bob follows several FM led trains between Iron Mountain and Escanaba, Michigan. You will be amazed by not only seeing, but also hearing these giant locomotives grind up the grades of the Michigan North Country.

The year is 1980 and the ailing Milwaukee Road has finished shedding thousands of miles of non-profitable secondary lines to evade falling into the history books forever. Unfortunately, that would come 5 years later. From the thousands of miles shed some would never see a train again. However, there were a few that had enough business to hold their own. One of those lines was the former Milwaukee Road’s Northern Division in Wisconsin, which consisted of 147 miles of railroad stretching from North Milwaukee to Horicon. Also, lines branching west to Cambria and north to Oshkosh and the segment going west from Brandon to Markesan. This whole division was on a list for abandonment since 1977 and with help of the Southwest Wisconsin Rail Users and Development Association; a new railroad was born on April 29th, 1980. From rags to riches we bring you the Wisconsin & Southern!

In this volume, we cover the WSOR’s Northern Division. This portion of the Wisconsin and Southern includes the Milwaukee, Oshkosh, Mayville, Cambria, Markesan and Plymouth Subdivisions.
